In a nutshell: This book was AMAZING. I literally couldn't put it down. I got it in the mail on Thursday and sat up all night on Friday reading it. Between laughing and crying, I was worried I was going to wake up my husband. :)
It is just the most heartwarming story I've read in a while. Wills is a little boy with high functioning autism (been there done that) and Cowboy is the sweet little golden retriever that helped Wills become much more involved in the world around him. It is so honest and open and I loved the writing style. The entire book felt like a conversation I've had with other moms. I could picture myself sitting with Wills' mom talking over a couple of lattes in Starbucks discussing the children and animals we have in our homes.
Even if you have a child that isn't on the autism spectrum I think you'd enjoy it. Every mom can relate to fighting for anything and everything it takes to raise a happy, healthy child. You certainly have to admire how hard Wills had to work too. He had to overcome a lot of fears in his little world and it certainly gave insight to how the autistic mind works.
I certainly thank Monica for sharing her son's story with us.
